Goals and why

What you will learn

  • what the difference is between an asset group and a unit

The rental inventory has two levels. The asset group is the type, for example "Avfallsdunk 660 L". That is where the prices and delivery setup live. The item, or unit, is the physical bin with its own barcode. The customer rents a type, and the system assigns a free unit.

An order template is the recipe that builds the transport order: which stops it gets, and in what order. On the group you choose the templates, goods type and dimensions, and the fractions the driver reports. If a link is missing here, the dispatcher notices first. There is no template to pick, or the order has no goods.

Key terms

Asset groupThe type of equipment, with prices, goods type, order templates and reporting types.
ItemOne physical object in the group, with barcode, depot and status ok, damaged or discarded.
Price intervalHour, day, week or month, each linked to a price code in the price list.
Order templateThe recipe for a rental order. It has the stops in order, with address source, POD, time on the address and order reporting.
Dynamic addressA stop set to "Asset depot location (Dynamic)" or "Customer asset location (Dynamic)". The stop takes its address from the rental.

  • The help article and the script say damaged items are skipped in the availability search. The code (RentalAsset::scopeAvailable) only excludes discarded. Expect questions if a damaged unit gets assigned. Also note: setting a unit that has never been booked to damaged or discarded deletes it from the list (RentalAssetController::tryChangeAssetToDiscarded).
  • Common support case: "no template to pick" for a new rental order. Check Address templates on the asset group, and that the template has the right stops: Rental Collect needs Pick-up at the customer location and Drop-off at the depot.
  • Rental objects requires the rental_rentalAssets permission, and Order templates requires rental_orderTemplates.
